CARDIOTHORACIC & VASCULAR SURGERY (CTVS) DEPTT

CTVS Department is headed by Dr. Satish George Mathew, MS, M.Ch, FIACS as Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon. He has worked as a consultant cardiac surgeon in the Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi for over 6 years, which performs nearly 5000 Open Heart Surgeries every year with a very high success rate. He has been involved with beating heart surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve replacement & repairs, arrhythmia surgery, aortic & peripheral vascular surgeries. Apart form this he was also involved with the state of art Robotic Cardiac Surgery using the DaVinci Robotic System, at EHIRC, New Delhi. He was instrumental in performing open heart surgeries at Norvic Heart Hospital, Kathamandu, Nepal in 2003. He is a Fellow of the Indian Asoociation of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons; Ex-Lecturer, C.M.C. & Brown Memorial Hospital, Ludhiana. He has published papers in various national and international journals and also presented scientific papers at international meetings.

Dr. Mathew is assisted by Dr. Akhil Kr. Rustagi, MS, M.Ch. and Consultant Anaesthesiologists Dr. Reetesh Arora and Dr. Shireen Varghese with well experienced senior perfusionist Dr. Sandeep Kadanga, technicians and staff nurses.

KHI has two state-of-the-art, zero bacteria operation theatres each with HEPA filtered laminar airflow system, equipped with special ALM (France) surgical lights, SCHMIZ (Germany) operating table, anaesthesia machine PENLON (UK) and transesophageal echo cardiography (CTEE). The operation theatres have two latest heart lung machines, JOSTRA (Germany HL-15TS) and are equipped to perform all types of cardiovascular surgeries.

It is a 18 bedded Intensive Care Unit with state-of-the-art monitors form Agilent Technologies (Germany), Central monitoring system and Defibrillators from Hewlett Packard (USA).

There are also 5 single ICU rooms with monitors to provide special care.

With a view to provide maximum attention to patient care, KHI has provided one is to one Nursing Care in the Post Operative Intensive Care and Step-Down Units.

Open Heart Surgery
Coronary Artery By-pass Graft (CABG), Aortic Valve Replacement, Mitral Valve Replacement, LA-MYXOMA excision, RSOV Repair.

Combined procedures like CABG with Valve Replacement or CABG with Carotid Endarterectomy or CABG with Vascular Bypass Operations.

Closed Heart Surgery
Coarctation Repair, Closed Mitral Commissurotomy.
